Born in Ottawa sometime after the second world war, I started singing at age two and haven't stopped yet..  Our next door neighbour had a teenage son who introduced me to rock and roll at about five years of age and I was soon singing along with the Buddy's (Holly and Knox), Conway Twitty, Eddie Cochrane, the Everlies and of course, Elvis.  I saw Elvis on the Ed Sullivan Show and was completely mesmerized.  However, the next thing I know I'm taking piano lessons.Three years of piano lessons were like three years of homework.  And, no matter how hard I practiced, it still didn't sound like the Ventures.

At around the same time (age 9 or 10) I met Dave Poulin and he and I became fast friends.  We spent a lot of time for some reason, listening to and singing along with the Kingston Trio.  We must have been drawn to their harmonies.  We still weren't playing actual instruments at this point but our deft air guitar playing left no doubt that we would be extremely good musicians if we ever did start to play.

All it took was the arrival of the Beatles.  Soon we owned actual guitars (bad ones) and were learning how to play. We started a band which eventually morphed into The Five D.  This was a pretty successful group which lasted about five years and had definitely given me the idea that music was the thing to do.  In the 70s I played guitar publicly for the first time in Ripple, a bit of a cult band and bass in an excellent bar band called Bad and Rude (we weren't bad at all but we might have been a bit rude).  And although I have had many different day gigs over the years (mostly intolerable), I have never stopped learning, playing and writing music.

When David called me to say that Brian Bradfield (the Five D's original drummer) wanted us to get back together I was skeptical about what purpose it might serve (other than to play old tunes from the sixties).  It was suggested that perhaps we could all bring some of our own tunes to what would become a recording project.  What a great idea.  It's only taken about five years to record an album's worth of material but it's been a great experience; something I have always wanted to do.

The CD is done and I think it is really strong...  good tunes, good singing and playing.  I can't wait to do it again.
